Radical

Reid Hall | 4, rue de Chevreuse, 75006 Paris
Free and open to the public

Written by National Book Critics Circle winning author Xiaolu Guo, Radical is a provocative memoir and an intercultural feminist lexicon of a sojourn in New York that upended Guo's sense of self as a woman, partner, mother, and artist.

Xiaolu Guo will present her novel Radical and her short film Rocks Remember in conversation with Madeleine Schwartz.

Radical is the story of Xiaolu’s visiting professorship in New York, when she had to leave her family behind in London. Her encounter with American culture and people threatened her sense of identity and created a crisis of meaning, desire, obligation, and selfhood.

In her documentary essay Rocks Remember, shot in the Ticino region in Switzerland, Xiaolu mixes archives and performance, the sacred and profane, poetry and realism, and leads us to reflect on the relationship between the deep time of rocks and an anthropocene.
