“Over 7 million Venezuelans have left my country. I saw my home become empty, and my memories blur, as if looking at my childhood through a foggy window. I traveled to areas that hold traces of the promise of prosperity we were given, looking for the Venezuela I grew up hearing about. I Can’t Hear the Birds is a personal search for a lost ideal of grandeur that once defined Venezuela’s identity as an oil-rich nation.
