Chios’s Other Voices
How might we bridge the distance between prisons and the communities that surround them? In this exhibition anthropologist and filmmaker Stratis Vogiatzis from the Caravan Project presents the project Patent(a), the result of a ten-month collaboration with twenty-four incarcerated men of seventeen different nationalities that aims to map daily life in the Chios prison. Through a series of drawing, creative writing, and crafts workshops, the collaborators created a unique archive of objects that seek to turn prison cells into homes, address daily practical needs, and allow one to imagine a life beyond incarceration. The exhibition is structured around an upcoming publication of the project and will kick off with a discussion among formerly incarcerated people, members of the Caravan Project, and SNFPHI collaborators who have run similar programs in the past.
