The War War, Jaw Jaw, Bunny Play
Deborah Levy’s new play 50 Minutes, the War War, Jaw Jaw, Bunny Play premiered at Theater Neumarkt in Switzerland. It has been reviewed by Natasha Lehrer for the Times Literary Supplement and Arifa Akbar for the Guardian.
“Rabbit (Hauke Heumann) has come for a session with Professor (Susanne Sachsse) in an elegant apartment, its corridors and walls lined in watery moiré taffeta. A large statue of a horse’s head stands on a pedestal. Professor invites Rabbit to lie down on a white leather couch beneath a large painting depicting a broad, undulating ribbon and a splash of shit-coloured pigment. She smokes a distinctly Freudian cigar, he vapes neurotically. Only Rabbit’s vape tells us that the action takes place today. He seems quite mad with fear. He tells her his neighbour, who calls himself Gustav, though that is not his name, has received a call-up notice.”
