Southern Crossings: a New Chamber Opera

Zaid Jabri

Southern Crossings, the opera that Zaid Jabri composed while at the Institute, will have its world premiere in New York on June 16th and 18th.

6 characters. 3 stories. 1 divided world.

“In the century of discovery, of empire and emancipation, six characters confront each other with their fears and doubts about what science demands, and what it may cost them and those whose world it is about to transform.”

Jabri collaborated with Columbia University professors Yvette Christiansë and Rosalind C. Morris, who wrote the operas’ libretto.

This event is co-sponsered by the Society of Fellows and Heyman Center for the Humanities, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Institute.
