Not Yet Men, No Longer Boys
Tash Aw
Tash Aw’s latest novel, The South was recently reviewed by Andrew van der Vlies for the Times Literary Supplement.
“In Tash Aw’s new novel, the Lim family – Jack, Sui Ching and their children, Jay, Yin and Lina – head to south Malaysia for the holidays rather than to Jack’s family home in the country’s north, even though his father passed away a year earlier and his mother is in declining health. Sui Ching is pleased: her mother-in-law always thought her son, a mathematics lecturer, could do better than ‘a girl from the provinces’, his much younger student, ‘who would always hold him back’.”
