Uniting ‘open landscapes’ (Ngiyobona Phambili)

At the Institute I will work on expanding and completing the photographic series Ngiyobona Phambili. I will also use my time in Paris to develop the series as a book, providing another way to access the work.

A graduate of the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg, Sabelo Mlangeni is a South African photographer and visual artist. Best known for his intimate images of communities in South Africa, his series on "The Royal House of Allure" in Lagos was recently exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. His ongoing work – Ngiyobona Phambili (“I will cross the bridge when I get there”) – explores space, time, and intimacy in a reflection on the politics of collective memory and belonging.
