Le mercredi 11 juin 2025, Annie Ernaux, Prix Nobel de littérature, a participé à la rencontre « Voglio Vivere Una Favola » à Reid Hall. À cette occasion, elle a lu en public, pour la toute première fois, son œuvre Les Années.

En conversation avec Thomas Dodman — ancien Fellow de l’Institute for Ideas and Imagination, professeur associé à Columbia University et directeur du master HILI — l’autrice s’est livrée avec sincérité et lucidité sur son œuvre, ses engagements, ainsi que sur le pouvoir de l’écriture comme acte de mémoire et de résistance.

Cet événement a été coorganisé par Thomas Dodman, le programme HILI, le Columbia Global Paris Center et l’Institute for Ideas and Imagination.

Annie Ernaux

French writer who was awarded the 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory”. Her literary work, mostly autobiographical, maintains close links with sociology.

Thomas Dodman

Thomas Dodman is a Franco-British historian and an assistant professor of French at Columbia University. His research and teaching focus on forms and experiences of social transformation in the modern era, particularly in times of war and revolution, and as seen from the standpoint of affects and medicine. He is the author of What Nostalgia Was: War, Empire and the Time of a Deadly Emotion (Chicago, 2018) and a co-editor of Une histoire de la guerre, du XIXe siècle à nos jours (Seuil, 2018). He also co-edits the journal Sensibilités: histoirecritique & sciences sociales (Anamosa) and directs the History and Literature MA at Columbia’s Global Center in Paris.
