Sensory Overload
Emeka Obgoh discusses his latest installation, Song of the Union, in the Financial Times. The work is located at Edinburgh’s Burns Monument as part of that city's Art Festival going on from July 29–August 29, 2021.
“Now the artist is bringing his unique sensorial approach to the Edinburgh Art Festival, where he will present a seven-channel sound installation, co-commissioned by the Talbot Rice Gallery, that responds to the UK’s departure from the European Union. It fits logically into the artist’s wider practice. ‘You can’t talk about Brexit without talking about migration,’ Ogboh says. Installed at Edinburgh’s Burns Monument, Song of the Union will feature recordings of singers from the 27 EU member states and one from the UK. Ogboh chose the monument as the location for his installation because of its ‘strategic’ view of the Scottish parliament.”
