Reinventing Grassi | SKD

Emeka Ogboh

Emeka Ogboh's At the Threshold is one of the three artistic projects selected for the re-opening of the Grassi Museum of Ethnology in Leipzig on March 4th.

The Grassi has been closed for almost a year while its curators worked towards embracing today’s critical view of its history and taking into account the current issue of restitution.

Since early 2021, Emeka has worked on the At the Threshold, f a series of portraits of the Benin bronzes currently part of the Saxon Ethnological Collections. Through soundtrack, he addresses the presence and absence of the bronzes at their place of origin and in the collections of German museums.
