Lynnette Widder’s essay, Languages of Love, has recently appeared in the Oxonian Review.
“German is my second language in chronological terms, but I can scarcely imagine myself without it. I brought it home with me from Berlin after a year-long internship in an architecture office. ‘It’s heart-stopping’, my father said without realizing I was in earshot, ‘to hear your child speaking in words you thought belonged to people who were out to gas your kind’.”
