Dina Nayeri interviewed in Condé Nast Traveller
2019-2020 Fellow Dina Nayeri was interviewed by Lale Arikoglu on her latest book Ungrateful Refugee: What Immigrants Never Tell You and about her own refugee experience.
“When we escaped Iran, myself, my mother, and my brother would tell funny stories of Iran to soothe each other when we were sitting in refugee camps. And we would also tell those stories to other refugees, and then those refugees would tell their stories to us. It helped us create a community out of this scattered, disparate group of people who were from all over—Russia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran. It’s really very frightening to be going through that kind of displacement.”
