The Labudović Reels: Cinematic Solidarity Across the Non-Aligned World

At the Institute, she will work on The Labudović Reels: Cinematic Solidarity Across the Non-Aligned World, a combination of interactive book and video installations for an exhibition investigating the cinematic links between Yugoslavia and the Non-Aligned countries during the 1960s and 1970s. The starting point of the project is material gathered while shooting a documentary film on Stevan Labudović, the cameraman of Yugoslav president Tito, who was sent by the president to provide images for the Algerian Liberation Front, as well as Frelimo in Mozambique and the
MPLA in Angola.

Mila Turajlić is a documentary filmmaker and archive scholar born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Her prize-winning films have been screened at numerous festivals including Toronto and Tribeca, and have been released theatrically in France, Germany, UK, US, Uruguay, and across the former Yugoslavia.
