Lux: sept tableaux le long de la mer comprises seven choreographed theater performances based on two original pieces for piano by composer Héctor Cavallaro. The result of a year of research and creation combining music, dance, and theater, the Lux Project is a dialog between the dramatic shadows of Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro (Italy, 1571-1610) and the dazzling tropical luminosity of Armando Reverón (Venezuela, 1889-1954).

These two musical pieces, Étude sur l’ombre chez Caravaggio (2018) and Étude sur la lumière chez Reverón (2021), are inspired by these two painters’ use of pictorial light and the unexpected similarities of their work in spite of the ocean and centuries separating them.

This piece was conceived of and is directed by Héctor Cavallaro, a musicologist, composer, and interdisciplinary artist, and Marysol Gómez, a specialist of physical theater and the founder and director of the Compagnie Interthéâtre. Also taking part in the creation and performance of this evening are the photojournalist Fabiola Ferrero, current Abigail R. Cohen Fellow at the Columbia Institute for Ideas and Imagination; the singer and actress Lya Bonilla; the dancer Violette Figueira; and the actors Lucas Toussaint-Aznarez, Jean-Marie Scheidt, Fernanda Feldens, Guillaume Schlager, and Daniel Cocer Roa. Costume design by Verónica Rendón.

With the support of the Équipe Cisi (Lab. MusidanseEdestaUniv. P8), the CND Pantin, the 104 Centquatre , the Studio La Casa, the Studio Le Regard du Cygne, and the MPAA.
